Gerina Stevenson was born in Mexico to Mexican parents Alan Stevenson and Rita Stevenson. Her heritage is Mexican American but an American nation by birth. Her desire to play sports was born as a child. Gerina started playing golf at the age of 15 years old. Gerina graduated from high school in Goddard High School. In high school she was the winner of in the New Mexico Golf State Tournament. Along with playing volleyball, she also competed at an official level. At the age of 2003, she was enrolled in the University of Texas. Through the latter seasons of her professional career, she was the winner of every event that she participated in. In her undergraduate professional career, she took home her the Conference USA Individual Champion Player of the Year and UTEP Female athlete of the year.
